Our Story

Hello! I’m Rachel Mills the owner of i’s bakery. There’s no question that I love baking, flour runs in my blood. I attended culinary art baking and pastries at Schoolcraft Community College in Livonia, Michigan. That’s where my life changed forever and where I truly fell in love with baking. It also happens to be the very same place where I met my husband Payne Mills as he was going for culinary arts to become a chef. Let me just say dinners in our house are a dream come true! Payne is the reason why I left the beautiful state of Michigan to come to Oklahoma and start a new life as Mr. and Mrs.

I remember the holiday season always being my favorite time of the year because my mom would always make chocolates an baked items as gifts for our family. We would make a huge mess in the kitchen and find chocolate in random spots for days, but I loved it. It wasn’t until several years after that where I realized I had a passion for baking and decided this is what I want to dedicate my life to. It actually was when my grandmother started getting ill and passed away that I started to bake. The week she passed I did nothing but bake. For days I made cookies, cupcakes, and breads. I don’t think there has ever been that much sugar in the house before. My dad eventually asked me what I was doing, my reply was sarcastic at first because I was clearly baking. He asked again but why, this time with tears in my eyes and a quivering voice I responded because I’m upset and this is the only thing that is making me happy right now. As soon as I said those words it hit me, if baking can make me happy when I am this upset, then this is what I want to do with my life.

I remember that day like it was yesterday, it is was pushes me to continue through the hard days to get to those days that make it all worth it. I bake for my loved ones, my friends, and myself. I bake for the smiles, the mmm’s, the warmth. I bake for my grandmother, Irene- who everyone called her “I”- she is the reason why I started baking. That is why I named my bakery after her. i’s bakery is the beauty from my pain, and this is my journey.
